Here we go

So it's time. Nearly back in Grahamstown, G-Funk, Jazzy-fizzle, G-Jelly, call it what you will. I, for one am excited. Sure, don't get me wrong, I love being at home with my old friends and parents and what-have-you, but living away from home simply cannot be beat.
No one says, "Get off your paddon-ka-donk and do something," or "Why are you so drunk? God, Julien, it's 4 am and you stumble in and piss on the front stoep!" (That last one has not yet happened).
But, for me one of the major downsides to living alone is that you have to buy everything yourself. You can't just rock down to the fridge and drink Coke out of the bottle. The closest to that I get is a sip of hot, stinky, dirty water from the tap. Bleh. But, as they say, every fork has it's prong. (Well, thats not really a saying... yet)

So, let us hope that the world favours me this year...
Y'all should see some good picks and some other lovely things from me in the next little while...

Economics

So, here's a thought that has been bothering my for quite a while.
If the inflation is so high is South Africa that we are given ridiculous interest figures at banks and on retail bonds, is it helping or not?
The idea behind high interest rates at banks is to curb inflation, but it just compensates for it and drives it further and further.
For example. Bob may put R10000 in the bank and in 10 years that will grow to R17000, in theory. Now, inflation, set at around 6% or so, is compensated for by this. But now Bob has more money to spend, but the same buying power as he did 10 years before. See my point?

Let me know what you think.

Time to go

So, its time for me to go away. I am rather excited. (Its not manly to admit that, is it?)
Going to Holland just for the night, to a town called Kaatsheuvel in Noord-Brabant. Then, off to France early on Saturday morning. 12 hour drive. yay. NAAAT! We're going to a skiing village called Le Deux Alpes, which is pretty damn cold. Its -23 degrees at the moment. Sigh. hahah.
We're are there for 8 days skiing and doing whatever else we decide, then we're going back to Kaatsheuvel for a week, hopefully I am going to Friesland for New Years, where I will see a friend I met at University. Keen. Then we're off to Italy for a week. We're starting in Rome and Then going to Venice. It's gonna be awesome! Then we're back in Holland for 4 days or so and then bck to Cape Town. I am excited. Like, really!

Chat to me on twitter or Facebook for updates and pics!

The state of the City

Good Lord, things have changed around here, haven't they?! Man, I leave this place for 3 months and when I come back, Jug Night is lame, Manic Monday is boring and Fiction is popular. Noooooo!!!!
But, no matter, I have never been entirely into the party scene in any case. Too much money to be surrounded by pretentious 16 year olds strutting about with there chests puffed out.
And now apparently there is a cover charge for most places that used to be free?! Baaastards!!! aaaaah.

Anyway, I'm off to listen to my newly acquired Eurotrance mix.

Homzies

Whoody Doody Everyboody. Its been a while since I last posted.
Well, its nice to be home, kinda.
My friends have been replaced by family feuds, crappy dining hall food has been replaced by the food that I make and instead of the weather changing every 10 minutes, as it does in Grahamstown, it is rainy for a week. All this said, I do love Cape Town summer, I really do. Its usually warm and everyday is a beach day. Its nice to see my friends again, although I have to reconnect with them after not seeing them for three months and evidently things have changed around here.

Ciao bbz.

Gimmie a hand

Go and check out our article on UPIU.com at

Accomplish things, but don't boast

Don't you hate it when people do something, and then boast about what they have done? There is a clear difference between being proud, and boasting, as there is a clear difference between fishing and standing on the shore with a stick looking like an idiot. This thought occurred whilst listening to the Jesus Christ of folk, Robert Zimmerman (aka. Bob Dylan). Man, that guy is good. His music is still in my top 10 and I have been listening to him for the last 10 years at least. Times are a'changing' was the first song I learnt on guitar and he has inspired me everyday. Most recently, I discovered a line in It ain't me babe, that says, 'go lightly from the ledge babe, go lightly on the ground' I interpret that as meaning that one must leave a situation and not make bones about it, in other words, don't make a big schpeel out of something when it isn't necessary (I recently learnt how to spell necessary, so I thought I would use it).

Well that's me for today. Leave a comment, add me on twitter and if you are stressed, add a drop of lavender to your bath water and soak yourself calm.

Its friday

Woot Woot!!! Its friday!!! The end of another week of work for all of us. I miss high school (naaaat!!!!). Although at high school you could do no work and make up a shit excuse and it will be fine. If varsity is worse, man the real world will suck. Big time.
Its shirt-before-the-shirt time. This, my friends is awesome. It is a vest that one wears before going out. This means that when you are pre-drinking, you don't mess up your 'cool' shirt you intend wearing when you going out. Go check out Robynne's blog, its a good lolzie!
